Jukevoice

Juke is largely non-verbal and illiterate. The alphabet, math, and numbers are all irrelevant to him. He speaks about 30 words and knows about a dozen signs. He also makes numerous distinct vocalizations and clicking noises. But spend a few minutes with Juke and it is obvious that he thinks at a much higher level than he can communicate and that we can understand.

One imperfect substitute for language is sensation. Perhaps Juke has extra-sensory perception–not in the sense that he can read minds, but in the sense that he is more in tune with his senses. He thinks via sensations.

Jukevoice is an attempt to convey Juke’s sensational thought in words. It is as if Juke downloaded software into his brain that instructs him how languages work and taught him the vocabulary and grammar of English, and Juke is using it for the first time without the benefit of any real life experience. He knows all the rules but none of the customs.

There are three other key elements of Jukevoice: First, Juke takes medication to stabilize his moods and counteract his aggression. These are powerful mind-altering prescription drugs. Increased dosages and new medications wreak havoc on clear thought, and this is a key part of Juke’s experience. Juke’s thoughts shift as his medication shifts. Jukevoice thus fluctuates from chapter to chapter, but always originates from and reflects Juke’s brilliant mind.

Second, time is nearly irrelevant to Juke (yeah, “whenever”). He does not know how long ago something happened, or how long from now something may happen, or how long something has been happening or not.

Finally, Heavenly Dream Logic is the means by which we speak and comprehend Jukevoice, for how else could we be in the thoughts of another person?

And thus Heavenly Dream Logic is “whenever reason without language or math,” and to decipher it, you must “be sensational.”
